Managing Partner, San Diego Office. Handles and supervises cases throughout California.
Experience: Mr. Walton interned in the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Justice Department in Washington, D.C., in 1974. He was admitted to the California Bar, 1977, and began his practice in the Los Angeles office of Lillick, McHose & Charles (now Pillsbury Winthrop). In 1979, he moved to Lillick’s San Diego office where he specialized in defending maritime personal injury cases. Mr. Walton left Lillick in 1983 to co- found the law firm which became Walton, Ottesen, Meads & Koler. He was the Managing Director and Senior Shareholder of the firm for 11 years. In 1994, Mr. Walton founded the firm of Walton & Associates, where he continued his practice in maritime litigation, as well as commercial litigation and general business advice, before joining Kaye, Rose as a Managing Partner in 2007.
Specialization: Mr. Walton has successfully conducted numerous jury and bench trials in California State and Federal venues, as well as arbitrations and mediations, and has argued before both the California and Federal appellate courts. He has represented most of the U.S. flag tuna boat owners and underwriters with regard to Jones Act and other tort claims. He has also routinely handled a variety of maritime claims such as property damage, collision, allision, cargo claims, subrogation, inland marine claims, salvage claims and maritime lien and mortgage foreclosure. Mr. Walton has a vast experience in negotiation, litigation and general advice in fields such as corporate, real estate, general commercial, creditors’ remedies, construction contracts and litigation, construction defect, employment, professional liability, intellectual property, insurance coverage, insurance bad faith, unfair competition, technology and software, product liability and appellate advocacy. He has consistently served a solid and diversified client base, earning the respect of his legal adversaries and establishing an excellent reputation among the judiciary.
